Last night’s champions league sickening

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I was right about the half time draw in Liverpool/ Arsenal.  I knew it would be close, but rather than 2.1 for the half time draw I went for 0-0 at half time at 2.5.  Its just sickening when you lose like that.  To top it off with 20 minutes to go, Arsenal dominating possession, I decide to go on a claw back mission.  £50 notes Arsenal to win at 2.8.  As soon as I stuck it on I released that Arsenal were having a bout of arsenalitis and were dominating but not actually shooting.  It ended 1-1.  Terrible night.

This weekend the syndicate is back.   Looked at the fixtures and nothing stands out.  Guess that I’ll just be having what Pod’s having.  Its been an absolute stinker of a month but he’s been doing well.  Speaking of Pod,  just found his poker video (from the poker dome) on youtube, so cheesy (if like me, you can’t be bothered to watch it all, he wins it)

I should be a bookie

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Just been on the sportingodds site for the Arsenal/ Liverpool game.  The have a market called half time under over 0.5 goals.  Basically, if its 0-0 at half time, its under (2.5), else its over 0.5 goals (1.5).  They also have a market called half time correct score.  0-0 is priced at 2.25.  So if you think its going to be 0-0 at half time, then bet on unders at half time at 2.5.  I think the games going to be tight, so £50 notes on that.  Half time draw is evens at most places.

That’s an even more retarded situation than when bookies price a home win and a -0.5 on the Asian Handicap differently.   You might get 1.91 on a home win but switch the Asian Odds and you might get evens.  That’s just about understandable though as the markets are booked differently.  I guess it just shows that correct score betting is a bad bet and betting at Asian Bookies is good.

As for mine and Pod’s bets this week.  Looks like its going to be Man U draw no bet at 1.8.  End of the month, so money is a bit tight.  Going to hope the price holds up until tomorrow.

Neutral Betting Weekend thanks to the Spuds

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Spurs lose, 4-1 after leading 1-0.  It might be time to black list those fellas.  Man U cruise to a 4-0 victory, Chelsea hang on for a 1-0 win.  Would have been so sweet if the Spuds would have won.

Anyway, overall I didn’t lose anything this weekend.  Lucky for me I had Sunderland to beat West Ham.  Sunderland score in the 95th minute or something daft like that.  Price was 2.3 so actually made a small profit.

We’ll be back with the new month.  Looking at the Champions League, Man U on the Asian +0 at 1.95 looks great.  Roma have their captain and top scorer out.  Man U took the piss out of Villa the other day.  They are such a class side and should be clear favourites to win the Champions League.  Barcelona have no chance.  I was checking the odds the other day, Betis vs Barcelona, Betis were 200/1 or something like that to beat Barcelona after they went 2-0.  Betis came back and won 3-2.  That doesn’t happen to Champions.

Spam Comments

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Not too happy with the default wordpress spam catcher, Akismet.  Like all wordpress sites, this gets loads of spam.  Akismet catches loads but there were some false positives in there.  You still have to go through the comments and delete them.  So decided to put a captcha on the comments form.  The captcha is this one and the word list is from here  Hopefully that will stop the spam (ironic considering what I used to do for a living).

Arbing Bookie Free Bets

Monday, March 24th, 2008

If you are new to betting then arbing the free bets that bookies give you, is a great way to get started on their money.  (Alternatively you could arb their free bets and walk away).  Arbitrage is a way to make risk free profit.  Usually, it’s pretty tough but when the bookies are giving you money for signing up, its easy. Easiest way is way is to get a betfair account and hedge in someway.  If you want to know more then open an account with betfair using this code 3WC6THFMV then fill in the form below and I will email you the way to do it.

I can track the names of people that use this code so please enter your name as you have done on betfair.

Newcastle specials from PaddyPower

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

I got this email on Friday about specials at Paddy Power.  Most of it was about run of the mill, odds for this weekends games, etc.  However there was a nice section on Newcastle specials.

Liverpool  v Newcastle – Keegan’s Return
250/1 Liverpool to win 4-3

Who’ll leave Newcastle first?
11/8 Kevin Keegan
3/1 Michael Owen
4/1 Chris Mort
5/1 Mike Ashley
5/1 Dennis Wise
When will Newcastle win their first
match under Keegan?
15/2 v Liverpool
2/1 v Birmingham
7/4 v Fulham
14/1 v Spurs
5/1 v Reading
5/1 Not to win any of these games

Where will Newcastle finish this season?
4/1 12th or above
4/1 13th
9/2 14th
5/1 15th
11/2 16th
6/1 17th
5/1 18th or below

This is before the 3-0 thumping from Liverpool.  That 5/1 on winning none of those games looks pretty tasty.

Derren Brown and weekend betting.

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

I watched Derren Brown “The System” yesterday.  You can catch up on it on Chanel 4 on demand He has this system to predict the winner of 5 horse races in a row.  Its very clever and well worth a watch.  I was hoping for fool proof betting system at the end of the day its just trick.  He does explain the trick at the end and I can’t believe the woman didn’t cry.  She has 4K on a horse and he tells her the trick.  I’d be sick.

Anyway, no bets yesterday.  Premiership is tricky.  Pretty glad as many draws and winners weren’t at decent prices so we would have end up down.  No bets today either.  I should images that opposing Newcastle and Fulham will be profitable but not enough faith to stick any money on it.

Randomly Browsing

Monday, January 28th, 2008

As an investor rather than a betting man I spend a lot of time browsing the web for sites that give me good information about betting and the information needed to succeed.   The sites I visit the most are all on the right hand side.

I stumbled across this UK betting site which has a lot of potential.  It still looks like a work in progress but I’d bet it will be a hit one day soon.  There are some interesting articles in the directory.  Well worth a read.

It has a UK betting forum attached to it which provides some great information and tips.  There aren’t many members there currently but the admins are great and will answer any questions you may have about betting, casinos, poker etc.

Finally, it has an associated UK betting blog with it.  Its about all types of betting, not just your football, but horse racing, casino, bookmakers the job lot.

Back to the serious stuff now.  Bank is negative and the end of the month is nigh.  Probably leave it until tomorrow now and have some last minute bets.  I do fancy Bolton to beat Fulham at 1.91 but Pod doesn’t.

Some Crazy Odds available in running today

http://betting.betfair.com/football/general/the-day-it-all-changed-at-the-top-of-the-premiersh-291207.html

Just looking on the betfair blog and saw these big in running prices that won today.   I wasn’t pleased by the West Ham or Arsenal comebacks.

Everton v Arsenal

Arsenal did it the hard way as they were matched at 7.2 away to Everton before going on to score four. Everton were matched at 1.68 as they led by the single goal but that only lasted until early on in the second-half when Eduardo scored the first of two goals.

Correct score “any unquoted” was the winning runner in that market courtesy of Rosicky’s injury-time fourth and was matched at 55 and a sending-off (there were two- Arteta and Bendtner) was matched at 6.4. It was a good day for buyers of the bookings with the total make-up ending up at 100 with the average spread around the 45 mark.

Arsenal to be behind at half-time and winning at full-time was matched at 34.

Arsenal are now back into 3.2 for the Premiership title with Man Utd out to odds-against again having traded at 1.53 before today’s matches.

Other matches:

West Ham drifted to odds of 80 on Betfair after going 1-0 down at home to Man Utd; 2-1 correct score was matched at 130.

Chelsea drifted to 3.5 at home to Newcastle before Kalou’s winner just 3 minutes from time.

Villa drifted to 7.6 after going a goal down away to Wigan.

Manchester United’s defeat at Upton Park has pushed their price out to 1.87 for the Premiership title, having traded at a season-low 1.53 after Arsenal’s slip-up at Portsmouth on Boxing Day. Arsenal are in action right now away to Everton.

Sunderland’s win at home to Bolton has eased them to 3.5 for Premiership relegation.

To win the Premiership- Man Utd 2.06, Arsenal 3.2, Chelsea 9, Liverpool 11.5.
