A draw that feels like a win

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Villa screw up drawing to Boro 1-1.  Bank down to -£281.  Tonight, Bolton concede late.  Sporting win 1-0.  So bet is a push but as it was so late, it does feel like a win.  If we’d have gone 1X2 on it, we’d have got 1.67.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing.  Just glad it was a push.  My £50 side bet would have lost too, so it does in a way feel like I’ve made £100 rather than being level.

Looking at the weekend, Everton are 6/5 to win against Fulham.  VCbet are going to take a battering or make a packet.  They’ve gone top price for it.  You can bet here I’ve had £50 side bet on it.  If you haven’t already an account with them, its worth signing up because they give you a £50 free bet if the odds are evens or better.  They’ve gone top price on Birmingham too, 2.3.  Another 50 notes on that.  Newcastle are absolutely shocking.  Why is any team odds against at home to Newcastle?  I don’t know what the syndicate bets are yet but I’ve snapped up these prices.  I am pretty sure none of them will last.

If you haven’t got a VC account, I’d recommend, opening an account, sticking £50 on Everton to beat Fulham and then your £50 free bet on Birmingham to beat Newcastle.  Visit the site  Its worth it because even if both lose, you are down £50 but if both win you make £125.  Everton win, Birmingham lose, you still make £60 because Birmingham is a free bet.  Everton lose, Birmingham win , you are still £15 in profit.

Printing more money

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

For some reason we decided to have Sheff Utd against Coventry.  For once they actually won.  £100 at 2.05.  Bank now at -£181.

Just listening to the radio and Bolton manager, Megson has left half his team in the UK.  http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/7285151.stm  He says, staying up is more important that progressing in Europe.  The first left was 1-1 so Bolton really need win in Lisbon to progress.  They have Wigan on Sunday away which is a game they can win.  So bet for tomorrow is Sporting Lisbon -1 on the Asian Handicap.  Price is currently 2.05.  £100 staked.  Its printing money

Lets get back on Track

Monday, March 10th, 2008

What a weekend.  Upsets cost us dearly.  It would have all been alright if Arsenal would have won.  That £100 at 6.5 would have returned a nice profit.  Everton and Spuds win but the mighty gunners let us down.  Thats why multiples are bad.  Bank down to -£286.

Time to print some more money now.  Wednesday there are 3 premiership games.  Villa/ Boro, Pompy/ Brum and Chelsea/ Losers (Derby).  We reckon, Villa/ Chelsea double at 1.83 is the safest bet.  Villa are chasing a top 4 finish whereas Boro just got beaten 2-0 in the Cup by a lower division team.  Derby are going to get some comeback from Chelsea’s loss at the weekend.  £100 staked.

Newcastle specials from PaddyPower

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

I got this email on Friday about specials at Paddy Power.  Most of it was about run of the mill, odds for this weekends games, etc.  However there was a nice section on Newcastle specials.

Liverpool  v Newcastle - Keegan’s Return
250/1 Liverpool to win 4-3

Who’ll leave Newcastle first?
11/8 Kevin Keegan
3/1 Michael Owen
4/1 Chris Mort
5/1 Mike Ashley
5/1 Dennis Wise
When will Newcastle win their first
match under Keegan?
15/2 v Liverpool
2/1 v Birmingham
7/4 v Fulham
14/1 v Spurs
5/1 v Reading
5/1 Not to win any of these games

Where will Newcastle finish this season?
4/1 12th or above
4/1 13th
9/2 14th
5/1 15th
11/2 16th
6/1 17th
5/1 18th or below

This is before the 3-0 thumping from Liverpool.  That 5/1 on winning none of those games looks pretty tasty.

A weekend of upsets

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Chelsea join Man U and go out of the FA Cup.  Watching the game, its unreal how Chelsea can one of the top 3 teams in the country.  I can’t remember Chelsea troubling the Barnsley keeper at all.  Well, the only consolation is that we didn’t go crazy on it.  Only £100 staked, Bank down to £186.  Thats my interest in the FA Cup down this year.  Good for the winning team and the neutrals but no good from a punting point of view.  This fella sums it all up http://selectabet.wordpress.com/2008/03/08/who-will-win-the-fa-cup-now/

>>So the question should really be, ‘Who Cares Who Win the FA Cup Now?’ - As a punter I don’t. I’m not donating another penny to the bookies retirement fund.

I suppose the other upset of the day was Scotland beating England.  I saw Ireland/ Scotland and I thought that Scotland would never score a try against England.  I had England -9.  I was right about not scoring a try but England were awful, gave away 5 penalties and duly lost 15-9.   So thats 3 upsets in a day, they say bad luck comes in 3s.  No upsets today please and we’ll be alright.

Chelsea/ Barnsley FA Cup bet

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Liverpool win comfortably.  Can’t work out why bookies offer any decent odds against a team playing Newcastle.  -1.25 was such a gift.  Price was actually only 1.9.  So bank up to -£86.

Going to try printing some more money.  Chelsea -1 on the 1X2 handicap at 1.91 (exactly the same as -1.5 Asian but better price).  Barnsley are crap and the only reason the odds are the way they are is that Barnsley upset Liverpool.  Routine win for Chelsea.

Upset of the day, Man U, Portsmouth

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Well, thats one bet down.  Listening it to on the radio, it should been 3-0 home win easily.  As it happens, Pompy jammy it 1-0.  Bank down to -£176.  Liverpool should beat Newcastle so not too worried yet.

Odds from Betfair on were pretty high.  No Liverpool/ Barnsley style odds but Portsmouth were matched for £7 at odds of 28/1.

No Upsets please

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

FA Cup weekend sometimes throws up the odd upset.  I think this round they are going to be none.  If Chelsea/ Man U draw each other in the semi’s the other teams have a good chance to get in to Europe.  Stan James are doing a nice special on Boro, West Brom, Man U and Chelsea all to win in 90 minutes.  Odds are 6.5.

Second bet of the weekend is another Stan James special.  Its for Sundays Premiership, Spuds, Everton and Arsenal all to win.  6.5 also.

Finally, Liverpool -1.25 to beat Newcastle, odds 1.92.  Betting against Newcastle has been a goldmine this season.  I really can’t see why the handicap isn’t -1.5.  Liverpool just hammered West Ham 4-0.  I rate West Ham a better team than Newcastle.

So thats it, £100 staked on each.

Betting for the sake of it

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

They ae the words of Pod.  No bets for the syndicate. However, Mr I look at the stats, had Everon, +0.25.  Fifty notes on that.  The bastards lose 2-.  Still think they will demolish Sunderland though.  Odds have gone up for the scousers so even more value.

Steve, its almost printing money.  No dangers for your £100.  http://www.stelawton.com/2008/03/02/sunderland-v-everton-early-value/#comments
