Weekend bets 12th January

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Odds are already out at some bookmakers already.  A couple of bets that have caught my eye.  First bet is Reading +1 on the Asian Handicap against Villa.  Price 1.86.  To be honest I think the handicap should be +0.5.  Reading aren’t that bad a team.  Villa may win but never should be a mere 1.55 on the 1X2 against a mid table team like Reading.  The handicap is for the extra insurance.

Second up is Wigan to beat Derby.  Can’t believe this price either  1.75 draw no bet.  Has no bookie realised that Wigan are a lot better under Bruce.  They beat Newcastle, lost a lead Villa, took a point from Anfield and then beat Sunderland 3-0.  Derby are just awful at the moment.  There are some signs of improvement hence the insurance of the draw no bet.

£100 staked on each.  Guess we will be overdrawn at the bank if both of these lose but I can’t see it.

I did fancy Pompey “we play better away from home” to beat Sunderland.  2.55 is a good price.  1) we are out of money for this month. 2) Pod didn’t like the bet 3) Pompey have players going to the African Cup of Nations.

Spurs +1 against Chelsea is probably another good bet.  1.73.  Chelsea’s run at Stamford bridge can’t last forever and now is the perfect time for a decent side to finally defeat them. Again, no money.  Must keep disciplined.

Remember the Ladbrokes rule

Watford win 2-0.  I was that sure of that bet I had a cheeky £100 on the side.  Good old Colin knows that there’s no point competing in a cup you can’t win and would rather concentrate on the league.

Newcastle let us down with a poor 0-0 draw.  To be honest, Stoke should have won that one.  Newcastle are very, very lucky.

I should have seen the warning signs.  When ever Ladbrokes seem to go top price for a favourite it always seems to not win.  There was a time when I would fancy a bet and then not have it because the best price was at Ladbrokes.  The 2.38 for Newcastle was at Ladbrokes.  Not only that, Ladbrokes went best price on Birmingham (lost) and Sunderland (lost).  I must conclude that Ladbrokes have very good odds setters.

Bank down to -£209.
