Weekend bets

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Everton leave it late to win.  I had written this bet off at half time.  They were 1-0 down and didn’t even look like scoring.  Somehow they managed to come back and win it 3-2.  Good old Anichebe scored in the 88th minute.  So £80 won, bank up to +£68.

This weekend we already have Man City to beat Boro.  1.73.  Sheffield United/ Bristol City overs.  Blades are 7-2 with the overs/ unders.  The score a lot and let a lot in.  Bristol are 5-4 so most of their games have ended up overs too.  odds 1.91.  Finally, we hae Arsenal/ Man U and Villa (draw no bet) at 1.91.  Man U and Arsenal are bankers, Villa should win but we’ve gone for the draw not be option which is a little safer.  Odds for treble, 1.91.  All bets £100.

Rugby Betting

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

I was forwared a link today about a rugby flash game  I had a go at it and can’t finish it.  I can only get as far as Oz.  I guess there is a strategy but I haven’t the patience to work it out.  If anyone can get a time for me to better I’ll probably go back to it but at the moment, its got me beat.  Have a go here

As for Rugby betting, this world cups been a license to print money. Rugby betting is inherently easier than football betting. As more points are scored the chance for an upset is very low. Draws rarely occur so really its just betting on 2 outcomes. The odds generally reflect this, for example, New Zealand to beat Scotland was 1/100.

The big money is in handicaps. The bookie sets a handicap, say in the case of New Zealand / Scotland; Scotland would probably get a 50 point head start. So if the game finished 55 – 7, you’d win the handicap bet if you went with the Scots. Odds are usually 10/11 for both teams and 17/1 for the handicap draw. The bookie makes on the over round (ignoring the draw option, he’s paying less than even money for an even money bet).

The bookie to some extent sets the handicap to reflect the likely points difference. However, this is not the main thing on the bookies mind. As he makes on the over round, it’s in his best interest to set the handicap at a value that will ensure he gets bets on both sides. That’s why you get some really stupid handicaps. England got a 11 point head start against South Africa when the book opened at Ladbrokes. Anyone who read the match reports could see that South Africa were going to hammer England. By kick off the handicap had moved to about 17 but still that was still too low. England duly got hammered and all patriots lost money.

Today’s bet for me is Australia -11 to beat England. I saw the Aussies crush Wales. The score made it look at lot closer than it was. Aussies were leading by so much and let the Welsh get back in to the game. I rate Wales much more highly than England on current form. I’ve got a 100% record so far this world cup so hopefully the run will continue. £100 staked.

My other bet is all four favourites to win. The accumulator pays about 1.72. I can’t see any upsets. France could conceivably turn over the all blacks but thats my only worry. Only £50 staked on that as corals limited my stake on it.

UEFA CUP bet

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Hopefully a better night than last night.  We have Everton to beat Metalist Kharkov, odds 1.8, £100 staked.  If Everton don’t win they’ll be out of the cup.  A 2-2 draw would do it or a 1-1 and extra time/ penalties.  Ulkraine isn’t a nice place to play but I think the Premiership quality will show.

Failure

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Well, all 3 teams we backed tonight lost.  Its not like any of them even drew.  We could have got out of the Valencia match as they went 1 up but the way the game was going, it looked like Valencia were going to win by a few.  That was a good bet that just lost.  Can’t really be helped.
Liverpool and Milan were never ahead, its hard getting out of a double anyay.   Never mind.  I’ll take comfort in the wise words of The Stephen Lawton, “Results like March’s are all part of the fun, you need the lows to really appreciate the highs.”

Bank at -£12 now.

Late Champions League bet

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Last minute CL bet.  Milan and Liverpool to both win.  2.8 for the double.  Not sure whether Milan is a good bet but Pod was pretty convinced.  Come on Valencia, Milan and Liverpool.

A nice result

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Arsneal and Barca do the business.  £188 profit.  Lucky I put it on as Pod thought we were having 2 singles.  I just don’t think that odds at 1.73 and 1.66 are really worth playing as singles.  Might as well double them up with a home banker and get evens.

Moving on to Sunday we’ve had Man City to beat Middlebrough.  Price is 1.73.  £100 staked.  Man City are solid at home under Sven.  I think the price is just about right but can see this moving south so best to get on early.

Champions League Picks

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Last month ended in profit.  Only £67 though.  We decided to have Spurs at the last minute.  That was a mad game from what I heard.  4-1 down and to come back to 4-4.  £100 staked so £100 lost.

So, since this blog has been going we’ve made

February -100
March -400
April +216.34
May +125
June +81.50
July -125
August +570
September +67

Thats a grand total of £434.  March was a real body blow.

Anyway, tonight we have Arsenal and Barcelona to both win.  Double pays 2.88.  £100 staked.
